Hon Judith Nabakooba, Minister of ICT and National Guidance

For those who want bars to reopen and curfew to be suspended, all you have to do is show up and get vaccinated.

Important Note

Government has through the Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Judith Nabakooba asked Ugandans calling for the suspension and extension of curfew time to first turn up for the vaccination against COVID19.

The Minister who was Sunday addressing Journalists heaped praise on President Yoweri Museveni, First lady Janet Museveni, Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II and the Nabagereka Sylvia Nagginda for acting as an example when they received their COVID19 vaccine jab.

Nabakooba noted that the vaccine is safe and called upon everyone to embrace it if the country is to completely defeated the pandemic.

Below is her full statement;

His Excellency President Yoweri Museveni addressed the nation on Friday 16th April regarding the country’s progress with Covid-19.

During his address, the President provided a simple road map that will help most of the closed sectors to reopen.

For example, for those who want bars to reopen and curfew to be suspended, all you have to do is show up and get vaccinated.

About a month ago, Government embarked on a COVID-19 vaccination effort starting with the most at risk populations.

So far, the numbers of people showing up for vaccination are still very low.

We have close to 5 million people in the risk category of 50 years and above, together with those having underlying health conditions.

If you take into consideration all other categories;

Categories such as medical people, security, teachers, social workers, the high-risk group grows to about 21 million.

However, less than 10% have so far shown up for vaccination ever since the exercise started a month ago.

His Excellency the President made it clear that we have to vaccinate upto 80% of the risk categories before full reopening.

This shows us that there is still a lot of work to be done.

The job of mobilizing and educating people about vaccination should not be left to government alone.

All private sector players including the artists, (musicians) need to come out now and use their spaces calling upon the public to embrace the vaccination.

There has been a lot of misinformation about the Covid-19 vaccine.

This could explain the low turn up at most of the vaccination centers.

We have been assured by Ministry of Health and our scientists that the vaccine is ok.

I thank His Excellency the President, the First Lady Mama Janet for leading the way by getting vaccinated.

I also thank His Highness, Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi together with the Her Royal Highness the Nabageleka upon being vaccinated.

For those who still had any doubts, you should look upto to our leaders for assurance.

Of late so many people have been calling upon government to suspend the curfew hours.

However, we now know that suspension of curfew is going to depend on how quickly we all show up for vaccination.

I therefore call upon all those in the categories defined by government to show up and get vaccinated.

We have been assured by Ministry of Health that more vaccines are expected in the country soon.

But before we talk about more vaccines, we quickly need to utilize the doses we received last month.

Finally remember to continue observing the guidelines by Ministry of Health even after vaccination.

Wash hands with soap all the time, wear the face mask and maintain social distance all the time.

For God and My Country.
